The traditional category can be described as a clean look with minimal embellishments and plenty of room for journaling. The focus is on the photos. This style works well for both the 81/2 x 11 layouts and the 12 x 12 ones

Trendy click for examples
If there were any scrapbook rules to be followed, trendy layouts break them all. These layouts are often layered and use non-traditional scrapbook items (for example, notice the quilted hearts and pig, the birch bark, the sheet music, the organza bag, etc). The pages tend to feel fuller, tell a story, and don't necessarily focus solely on the photos. This is a really fun, no-holds-barred, anything-goes way of scrapbooking. Creative freedom is in the hands of the designer and your pages are sure to pop.
